NSC rejects statement about Mumbai attacks by Nawaz Sharif terming it 'incorrect, misleading'

NSC meeting in Islamabad

The National Security Committee (NSC) has unanimously rejected the statement of former prime minister Nawaz Sharif which appeared in Daily Dawn on May 12.

The meeting termed the statement as incorrect and misleading.  The meeting of the chaired by the Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi in Islamabad on Monday observed that it was very unfortunate that the opinion arising out of either misconceptions or grievances was being presented in disregard of concrete facts and realities.

The participants unanimously rejected the allegations and condemned the fallacious assertions.

The joint statement issued after the meeting said that the meeting recalled that it was not Pakistan, but India that has delayed the finalization of the case. It also stated that India denied Pakistani investigators access to Ajmal Kasab, the convicted attacker who was hanged by India.

The statement said that Kasab’s rushed hanging by India impeded the investigation of the case, adding that India repeatedly denied assistance in the probe while there was complete cooperation from Pakistan.

“Pakistan will continue its efforts to eliminate terrorism on all fronts,” it was stated further.

The top brass of the military, including Chief of Army Staff General Qamar Javed Bajwa, Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee General Zubair Mahmood Hayat and Director General Inter-Services Intelligence Lt Gen Naveed Mukhtar attended the meeting, held at the PM House.

The chiefs of the navy and air force also attended the meeting besides directors general of military operations and military intelligence. The Defence Minister and acting foreign minister Khurram Dastgir was also a part of the meeting along with other top civil officials of the government.

The meeting was convened after the ISPR suggested the Prime Minister to convene the NSC meeting to discuss the 'misleading media statement' by Nawaz Sharif.[no-sidebar]
