Saudi Arabia opens soldier role in military to women


Rapidly changing Saudi Arabia has decided to recruit women and give them a role in the Saudi military. This has been announced by its General Security division that soldier rank positions will be available for women from different regions including Riyadh, Mecca, al-Qusaim, and al-Madina.
However, certain conditions will be applied in the process of recruitment. This decision is a series of reforms being carried out under the country's Vision 2030Launched by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, the ever-transforming footprint, which aims to diversify the economy beyond oil, mandates increasing the percentage of Saudi women in the workforce.
Following the Vision 2030, the General Directorate of Passports had started the recruitment process of women to work at airports and land border-crossing points across the kingdom. Initially, a total of 140 job openings at the directorate, 107,000 women have applied for the jobs.
News of the increase in women applying to jobs available to them in Saudi Arabia comes at a time when the country's Vision 2030 is opening up new work opportunities for them.
In recent months, the Saudi Araba announced that women will soon be joining the traffic police forces. The Saudi women will also start getting driving licenses from June this year for the first time in the country's history. Earlier, the women in Saudi Arabia could not drive vehicles. 
In October last year, the country also created 80,000 jobs for Saudi women after it limited work in women's wear stores across the kingdom to them. 
During the same month, Saudi officials announced that the Gulf state's Air Navigation Services Company (SANS) was planning to employ women as air traffic controllers for the first time in the country's history.
