Supreme Court directs NAB court to decide references against Nawaz in a month
Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Mian Saqib Nisar has directed
the accountability court to complete hearing of all three corruption references
against former prime minister Nawaz Sharif and his family within a month.
The order was passed on an application seeking extension in the
deadline of hearing of the three references against Nawaz Sharif by the NAB
court. The two-member bench headed by the Chief Justice the cases must be
decided now.
The deadline given to the NAB court expired on June 9.
During the hearing, the chief justice rejected Nawaz’s counsel
Khawaja Haris’ plea for completing the trial in six weeks, observing that final
verdict against the former premier, his sons, daughter, and son-in-law should
be announced within a month.
The chief justice in his remarks said the accused were worried and
the nation was in distress as well, the case must be decided in a month.
However, the top judge remarked, Nawaz along with his daughter
could go to see his ailing wife Begum Kulsoom Nawaz in London if he wanted to
during the trial period.
