A man killed in violent protest over rape & murder of six-year-old girl in Karachi
Angry people took to the street in Kati Pahari and put the minor's body on road. They demanded of the government to arrest culprits.
The protests blocked the road causing suspension in the flow of vehicular traffic. The police tried to negotiate the protesters first and having failed to do so, the police tackled the situated with a heavy hand.
As the police resorted to firing in the air, tear gas shelling and baton-charge, in turn, the protesters pelted the police with stones and other hard objects. A man was killed during the clash between the police and protesters while two others sustained injuries. Five policemen were also reported injured.
The minor girl had reportedly gone missing near his Orangi Town home a day earlier and her body was found some five kilometers away from her home in Manghopir area on Tuesday.
The victim's father told the police that the girl left her house around 2:00 pm on Monday after her aunt slapped her for not going to Maddrassah,” the DO said, adding a call about the dead body of the minor was received at 12:40 am on early Tuesday morning.
The postmortem on her body was performed and the preliminary report established that the girl was raped before she had been strangled to death.
Talking about the incident, SSP West Omar Shahid stated that efforts were being made to turn the incident into a political issue, adding that protest at Kati Pahari was baseless.
He further stated that minor’s father gave names of three suspects, out of which two have been arrested. “Raids are being conducted for the arrest of the third suspect,” he said.
On Feb 17, an anti-terrorism court of Lahore awarded four death penalties to the prime suspect, Imran Ali, for raping and murdering the minor Zainab in Kasur. Zainab Ansari was abducted, sexually assaulted and killed in Kasur.[left-sidebar]
