Pakistan wins two key elections at United Nations
Pakistan has won two key elections at the UN, securing membership to the Committee on NGOs and the UNICEF Executive Board.
Pakistan was re-elected for the sixth time to the UN Committee on Non-Governmental Organizations by the 54-member Economic and Social Council by receiving 43 votes from the 53 member states. There were five candidates for four seats in the Asia Pacific Group.
After the voting, Pakistan’s Ambassador to the UN, Dr. Maleeha Lodhi thanked the international community. "Pakistan is grateful for the support it received from the international community for election to 2 key UN bodies."
She said as a member, Pakistan will continue to promote cooperation by the UN with civil society organizations working alongside governments to improve the lives of people across the world.
