Ten people including a Pakistani student have been killed and 10 more injured after a student opened fire at a Texas high school.
Among those killed was Sabika Sheikh, a Pakistani exchange student studying in the US facilitated by the Kennedy-Lugar Youth Exchange and Study (YES) programme.
The gunman, a 17-year-old student armed with a shotgun and pistol shouted "surprise" before shooting dead eight classmates and two teachers.
Students said the gunman, identified by law enforcement as Dimitrios Pagourtzis, first opened fire in an art class at Santa Fe High School shortly before 8 a.m. CT (1300 GMT) on Friday.
The attacker, who was arrested and charged with murder, was identified as Dimitrios Pagourtzis, a 17-year-old pupil at the school, who allegedly used weapons legally owned by his father to carry out the shooting.
The Pakistani Embassy in Washington DC confirmed Sabika's identity, while the manager of her exchange program, Megan Lysaght, said: "It is with great sadness in my heart that I need to inform you that one of our YES students, Sabika Sheikh of Pakistan, was killed today."
A Pakistani blogger Fariha Munir in her tweet said Sabika was on the exchange program and was due to come back home on Eid.
