Naqeebullah case: Anti-Terrorism Court sends Rao Anwar on judicial remand till May 2
A trial court sent the police officer Rao Anwar to jail custody till May 2, for allegedly killing Naqeebullah Mehsud and three others in a 'staged encounter'.
Anwar, who surrendered before the Supreme Court last month, was produced before the Anti-Terrorism Court after the expiry of his one-month physical remand. Shakeel Feroz, another suspect was also sent on judicial remand by the court.
Rao surrendered himself before the Supreme Court on March 21. A Joint Investigation Team (JIT), which was formed on the orders of the Supreme Court. The JIT completed its report but it is yet to be submitted to the court.
The JIT held different sessions, recorded statement of Rao Anwar, visited various avenues including the place from where Naqeeb was allegedly kidnapped and the encounter place in Shah Latif Town.
Rao Anwar and his team went into hiding weeks after killing of Naqeebullah Mehsud and three others in a staged encounter at Karachi’s Shah Latif locality on January 13. Anwar had earlier claimed that the men gunned down were terrorist associated with the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan and Islamic State.
