Mushahid Hussain tipped-off as PML-N candidate for Senate Chairman
The ousted prime minister of Pakistan Nawaz Sharif has
tipped off the name of Mushahid Hussain as the possible candidate of PML-N for
the Chairman of Senate.
Talking to media outside the NAB court in Islamabad on
Thursday, he said Raza Rabbani met the criteria of Chairman and he was the suitable
candidate for the seat of the next chairman of Senate. If people’s party
nominated him as candidate for senate, the PML-N would support him.
“We have consulted in our meeting and we support Raza
Rabbani. We have marathon meetings with our allies over the possible candidate
and they also support Raza Rabbani’s name as Senate Chairman. If people party
nominates him, we will support him.”
Nawaz Sharif said that the PML-N was looking for a potential
candidate who could meet the criteria for the seat of the Chairman in the
Senate. “Mushahid Hussain is a good person. I like him personally.”
He said that the purpose to proposing the name of Raza
Rabbani was to avoid another spell of horse trading. He claimed that horse
trading was witnessed in the recent senate elections. Balochistan was the apparent
example of horse trading, he added.
The ousted prime minister said legislation should be carried
out to stop horse trading. “We are ready to sit with all other political
parties to devise the bill to be tabled in the assembly to stop horse trading.”
He said the PML-N was the majority party in the senate. “Maulana
Fazul Rahman, Mehmood Achakzai and Hasil Bezenjo are the allies of PML-N”, he
added.
