Iowa family found dead in Mexican resort town while on vacation
A family of four from Iowa reported missing after they did not return home on Wednesday from their vacation in Mexico were found dead Friday morning inside their resort condo, according to multiple reports.
Kevin Wayne Sharp and Amy Marie Sharp, and their children 12-year-old Sterling Wayne and 7-year-old Adrianna Marie, were found by the Mexican authorities after the police entered the family's names into a nationwide database. A member of the U.S. State Department visited the condominium for a welfare check and found their bodies.
Investigators do not suspect foul play. "Autopsies are being performed in Mexico and results are pending," Creston police said in a statement.
"They went to sleep and never woke up," said Jana Weland, Amy Sharp's cousin.
The family had left St. Louis for Cancun, Mexico, on March 15. They were scheduled to stay at the rental unit through March 21 and visit with friends while on the beach trip.

The family was scheduled to return to the U.S. on a flight to St. Louis on March 21 and attend the Southwest Community College basketball game in Danville, Illinois on Thursday. When they failed to attend the game, their local friends and family got worried.
Creston Police Chief Paul Meer reached out to airport officials, who confirmed the family never boarded their return flight to the U.S. State Department officials were then contacted about the missing American family, prompting Mexican police to follow up.
Once at the condo, police found the four bodies of the family inside the unit. They said there did not appear to have been a robbery or break-in, but that they had been dead for a few days.
The State Department had an advisory on its website warning Americans traveling to Mexico to be cautious in reference to the incident.
Ashli Peterson, a family friend who originally shared a post on Facebook asking for information about the family's whereabouts, updated her post saying all four family members were found deceased in their condo.
