Sridevi cremated with state honours; India mourns beloved actress

Wrapped in the Indian flag and dressed in bridal red, iconic actress Sridevi was cremated with state honors in Mumbai on Wednesday. 

Sridevi’s journey has been a memorable one. But the film icon’s farewell is a sight that will remain fixed in the minds of many. The actress left behind a rich legacy of more than 300 films in Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, and Hindi and will always remain in fans' hearts. 

Bollywood icon Sridevi was in Dubai for a family wedding and had stayed back after the ceremonies. She died by accidental drowning in her hotel’s bathroom tub late on February 24, 2018. Her body was brought to Mumbai by the private jet around 9:30 pm on Feb 28. 

The newly married couple, Mohit Marwah (Boney Kapoor's nephew) and Antara Motiwala, cut short their honeymoon to be with the family in their time of grief.

Bollywood stars including Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Sushmita Sen, Shahrukh Khan, Salman Khan, Ranveer Singh, Deepika Padukone, Javed Akhtar, Shabana Azmi, Karishma Kapoor, Sara Ali Khan, Genelia Deshmukh, Shanaya Kapoor, Nagma, Ameesha Patel, Anshula Kapoor, Madhuri Dixit, Jaya Prada and many more paid their respects the first female superstar.  

Priya Prakash Varrier, the girl who became an overnight sensation after a song clip from her debut feature film Oru Adaar Love went viral, added her voice to the internet's collective sorrow. Priya posted a video of herself singing a classic Sridevi song, Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna, as a tribute to the star's passing.

While several celebrities including Shah Rukh Khan, Gauri Khan, Deepika Padukone, Ranveer Singh, Rekha and Karisma Kapoor among others flocked to Anil Kapoor's residence to be with the family, Odisha's sand artist Sudarsan Pattnaik paid a glorious tribute to the legendary actor Sridevi.
