EU, US denounce Bangladesh election violence, irregularities

The United States and European Union have denounced violence and expressed grave concerns over the irregularities in the recently held parliamentary elections in Bangladesh.

In a statement, the US State Department expressed concern about credible reports of harassment, intimidation, and violence in the pre-election period that made it difficult for many opposition candidates and their supporters to meet, hold rallies, and campaign freely.

According to state media, it further said that the United States is also concerned that irregularities prevented people from voting, which undermined faith in the electoral process.

Meanwhile, the European Union in a statement, has called for a proper examination of the allegations of irregularities in the election process.
