Candidates continue filing nomination papers across country
Candidates for national and provincial assemblies continue to file
nomination papers for general elections schedule for 25th of the next month.
Officials at
the Election Commission of Pakistan are receiving nomination papers even on
weekly holiday on Sunday. Monday is the last date for filing of
nomination papers while preliminary list of the candidates will be issued on
the same day.
19th of this month has been fixed last date for scrutiny of
nomination papers by the returning officers.
22nd is the last date for filing of appeals against decisions of
the returning officers rejecting or accepting nomination papers.
Last date for deciding of appeals by appellate tribunals is 27th
of this month while the revised list of candidates will be published the next
day.
Last date for withdrawal of candidature and publication of final
list is 29th of this month.
Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf is the only party so far which has
announced its candidates to be contesting in the general elections 2018.
Paksitan Muslim League (Nawaz) and the Pakistan Peoples’ Party
still appear uncertain in deciding to pitch their candidates for the upcoming
polls.
PML-N is going to hold its meeting today to finalize the list of potential
candidates. The meeting will also decide the fate of former Interior Minister
Chaudhry Nisar whose relations with the PML-N founder Nawaz Sharif became quiet strained. It is expected
that the PML-N will announce the names of its candidates by the evening.
