Mexico World Cup goal celebrations show up on seismograph
The country hosted many public watch parties, and they were well-attended. In Mexico City, the celebrations were so wild when Hirving Lozano scored in the first half, they registered on seismographs, effectively causing a small earthquake.
The celebrations immediately after Mexico’s goal against Germany caused an earthquake in Mexico City, according to the Institute of Geological and Atmospheric Research. 🇲🇽— FlFA World Cup (@WorIdCupFC) June 17, 2018

If that doesn’t demonstrate just how big of an emotional release the goal was, nothing will. Germany is widely expected to contend for the World Cup again, while Mexico is not among the favorites. Perhaps that’s still true, but statements were definitely made about both teams here.
