At least two employees were martyred while seven others sustained injuries as two motorcyclists attacked a bus, carrying civilian employees, in Attock on Basal road, private news channels reported.

The deceased included the driver of the vehicle and a passerby — a first-year student — police officials said.

Police initially believed the attack had been caused by a suicide bomber, but security sources said a vehicle-borne IED had been used in the attack. The same sources put the toll at one dead and seven injured. They said a rescue operation had been initiated in the area.

security forces rushed to the blast scene and cordoned off the area. Rescue teams shifted injured to the nearby hospitals for medical assistance.

Officials said that the unidentified attacker had opened fire at the bus as it slowed down at a speed breaker.

Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has strongly condemned the coward act of terrorism in Attock whereas he paid tribute to all those who were martyred and injured in the attack.

Sharif directed authorities to provide state-of-the-art medical facilities to those who sustained injuries. He directed the authorities concerned to trace terrorists and arrest them without any delay.
