Pakistani student Sabika Sheikh laid to rest at Karachi's graveyard

Pakistani girl Sabika Sheikh was laid to rest at Karachi's Azeempura graveyard after her body was brought here early today morning from the United States. 

Her Namaz-e-Janaza at Hakeem Saeed ground was attended by the Governor Sindh Muhammad Zubair, Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah, leaders from MQM, PSP, PTI, and other political parties, her family members and a large number of citizens.

Sabika Sheikh's body was brought to Karachi's International Airport at its Jinnah Terminal around 3:30am by a commercial airliner. Her body was received by her family at the cargo terminal.

The Airport Security Force saluted the coffin of Sabika Sheikh before it was handed over to the family. Sindh Information Minister Nasir Hussain Shah, Saeed Ghani, PTI leader Faisal Wada, PSP leader Raza Haroon, Acting US Counsel General John Warner, and others were present at the cargo terminal.

Sabika's coffin was brought from the airport to her residence in a procession. The coffin was wrapped in the national flag. Some emotional scenes were witnessed at the occasion.

Ten people including a Pakistani student were killed and 10 more injured after a student opened fire at a Texas high school on May 18.

Among those killed was Sabika Sheikh, a Pakistani exchange student studying in the US facilitated by the Kennedy-Lugar Youth Exchange and Study (YES) programme.

Earlier, her funeral prayers were also offered in the US city of Texas where her host mother and family were also present. 

The funeral service, scheduled by the Pakistani Consulate in Houston at Sugar Land's Masjid Sabireen, was separate from the one held in the teenage student's hometown of Karachi, which her family, friends, and relatives attended.
