Performance tracking of health system through smartphone app to be launched in Sindh

Sindh Health Department (SHD) will launch a major IT-based reform initiative for performance tracking of district health systems and swift response to patient complaints as it has announced plans to put a smartphone-based health application, Tibbi, in every public health facility in the province.

The initiative will replace prevailing paper-based systems and will see health workers collect real-time data about the use of health services.

This was disclosed by the Health Secretary Dr. Fazlullah Pechuho while discussing steps to enhance the sustainability and effectiveness of the province’s immunization services with the participants of the Sustainable Immunization Financing workshop organized by the Aga Khan University.

"We are launching the Tibbi initiative to enhance the monitoring of the performance of government health staff across the province,” said Dr. Pechuho. “The system will integrate data about preventive health programmes, patient referrals and health facility performance to give us an immediate assessment of the province’s health system.”

The technology underpinning the Teeko app was transferred at no cost to the Sindh government and has been adapted into Tibbi, as part of the Sindh government’s health system reforms.

The Tibbi initiative is expected to integrate monitoring of preventive health programs, health facility performance and patient referrals providing instant and verifiable online data.
