"Zardari not given all powers to nominate Senate Chairman", says Bazenjo
Pakistan Tehrik Insaf Chairman Imran Khan and Balochistan Chief Minister Abdul Quddus Bazenjo have come out to clarify the impression that Asif Zardari is going to nominate Senate Chairman.
Balochistan Chief Minister Abdul Quddus Bizenjo has clarified that Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari was not the sole authority to nominate a candidate for the seat of Senate chairman.
Balochistan Chief Minister Abdul Quddus Bizenjo has clarified that Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari was not the sole authority to nominate a candidate for the seat of Senate chairman.
Talking to a current affairs program on a private news channel Geo News, the chief minister said that candidate for the top slots in the upper house will be nominated after reaching a consensus.
The new-elected chief minister said that his group wants the next Senate head from Balochistan, adding, “We are expecting a decision that will be better for the province”.
PTI rules out cooperation with PPP
Ruling out any cooperation with the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has proposed to support independents from Balochistan and the Federally-Administred Tribal Areas (Fata) for the slots of Senate chairman and deputy chairman, respectively.
The PTI’s earlier stance was that it would do everything to block ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) from securing the coveted slots, had given an impression that it might agree to support the PPP through the Balochistan's chief minister for achieving the object.
After this impression, the social media was flooded with criticism on the PTI and the CM Balochistan. Following criticism, Imran Khan and Abdul Quddus Bazenjo clarified the situation.
Imran Khan on Friday ruled out the possibility of an alliance with the PPP, saying that shaking hands with ‘Zardari and likes’ will be tantamount to contradicting the PTI’s 22 years long struggle against corruption.
Independent candidates' role
Analysts say the groups of independent senators-elect from Balochistan and Federally Administrated Tribal Areas (Fata) are believed to play a crucial role in the upcoming election for the offices of Senate chairman and deputy chairman.
