Sattar challenges ECP’s verdict of removing him as convener in Islamabad High Court

MQM-P leader Dr. Farooq Sattar has filed a petition in the Islamabad High Court challenging Election Commission’s order to remove him as party convener.

Farooq Sattar requested the court in his petition that it should nullify the decision of the Election Commission Pakistan.

Islamabad High Court will hear the case Thursday.

Election Commission Pakistan's five members bench on Monday had removed Sattar from the position of MQM-P convener and rejected his plea that the ECP had no jurisdiction to adjudicate upon internal matters of the party.

Talking to media about the verdict, Farooq Sattar said it will be remembered as a black decision in the history of Pakistan’s judiciary, adding that he has been punished for standing against MQM founder.

A day ago, during a press conference, Sattar had asserted that ECP’s decision against him was a conspiracy to finish the party. He said the decision was made against him because he had saved the party from disintegrating back on August 23.

Earlier on February 18, Rabita Committee filed a petition in which it had challenged the intra-party elections held. The Bahadurabad faction had termed the intra-party elections as illegal, in which Sattar was elected as the party chief.

Whereas, Faisal Sabzwari from the Rabita Committee, addressing a news conference the same day, said that they invite Sattar to join them and lead MQM-P together.

MQM-P had earlier divided into two groups after a dispute over the party’s nominations for Senate election. Two senior members, Farooq Sattar and Amir Khan.
It was reported that Sattar suggested the name of Kamran Tessori for the Senate ticket which was opposed by Amir Khan and his faction.
