PM Abbasi says, "I went to the Chief Justice of Pakistan as faryadi of the country"

The word "faryadi" has echoed in Pakistan soon after the meeting of the Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi with the Chief Justice of Pakistan Mian Saquib Nisar at the Supreme Court on March 27.

A controversy developed on the word when the ousted prime minister Nawaz Sharif objected to the use of the word "faryadi" supposedly by the Chief Justice of Pakistan, who denied of using the word for the Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi.

The top court clarified that the attribution of using the word was completely wrong and malicious. The Chief Justice, the court said, holds the prime minister in high esteem, being the head of the government, and has never used the word faryadi for him.

Shortly after the meeting between the premier and the top judge, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan had claimed that the former must have begged the CJP for saving Nawaz Sharif’s theft of national wealth.

Addressing the public in Sargodha, Abbasi said his opponents had a problem with his meeting with the chief justice and have leveled allegations that he visited him as a 'faryadi'.

"They said I visited the chief justice as a 'faryadi' so yes, I did go to him as a 'faryadi' of this country. My witness is the chief justice. I don't want to discuss the meeting but I can tell you that we did not discuss any personal issues."

Nawaz Sharif's comment

The remarks had stirred controversy, with Nawaz commenting yesterday that the prime minister can seek an explanation from the chief justice.

Talking to media outside the accountability court, Nawaz Sharif said he will talk to the premier that he can ask explanation from CJP over his remarks regarding the meeting. He said that Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) will continue to discuss constitution and law.

Ex-PM said sanctity of vote should be held esteem at all costs as it has never been respected in the country. Today, my narrative is gaining track and everyone is talking about the respect of the vote, he added.

He suggested that every institution should work within its ambit. He had also termed himself and his party’s administration as the target of the inspections of hospitals and colleges by the Chief Justice of Pakistan.
