Musharraf likely to return after court directs govt to get Interpol's help for his arrest


Former military ruler and self-exiled chief of All Pakistan Muslim League, General (R) Pervez Musharraf has decided to return to the country in the wake of general elections to be held later this year.

The party spokesman Dr Ajmad said that Pervez Musharraf would face the cases against him including in treason case under article 6 of the constitution and lead the political campaign for the general elections.

"Though the date of his return has not been decided", Dr Amjad said adding that the former military ruler would return in six to eight weeks. "The date and the city of his landing will be announced soon", Dr Amjad assured the masses.

Mr Mussharraf convened the party meeting on March 18 at Dubai to discuss with his party members about the arrangments on his return and other political and security issues.

The announcement came minutes after a special court hearing the treason case against Musharraf on Friday ordered the interior ministry to suspend the former president’s identity card and passport, and also arrange for his arrest with the help of Interpol.
“In case the accused fails to submit his written request as mentioned hereinabove the ministry of interior and all other departments, divisions and agencies of the government of Pakistan are to take positive steps in ensuring the arrest of the accused and attachment of his properties abroad, including suspension of the CNIC and passport of the accused,” reads the  order of the special court.
Musharraf’s lawyer Akhtar Shah, however, told the court that he had requested the Interior Ministry for the provision of “foolproof security” on Musharraf’s return for he faces serious security threats.
