Taliban attack on military base kills 25 people including soldiers in Afghanistan

At least 25 people including Afghan National Army (ANA) soldiers and two Taliban insurgents have been killed in an attack on an Afghan military base in Afghanistan's western Farah province, said officials on Saturday.

Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) reports that public representative of provincial council, Dadullah Qane, said in a statement that at least 25 were killed in a Taliban attack on a military base in the province overnight.

“A large number of Taliban attacked an army outpost and we lost 18 soldiers and two were wounded,” defense ministry spokesman Dawlat Waziri said on Saturday, as quoted by Reuters. The attack took place in the western province of Farah.

The attack started early morning in Shakh-i-Bala Kansk area of Bala Block district. Taliban rebels captured two soldiers, stole a large amount of weapons and destroyed three tanks.
The incident occurred just before a clash broke out in Sore Shamal area, capital of Farah province, and while security forces were fighting the insurgents, the Taliban attacked the base.

According to local media, the spokesman for Taliban rebels Qari Yousaf Ahmedi claimed responsibility for the attack saying that around 30 soldiers were killed.

Early last month, at least six policemen and two Afghan National Army (ANA) soldiers were killed in a Taliban attack on security posts in the provincial capital and Anar Dara district of Farah province
